South Korean satellite captures first images of SpaceX rocket's moon crash site

A South Korean satellite captured the first images of the moon’s new crash site after a stray SpaceX rocket upper stage struck the surface Wednesday. The Korea Aerospace Research Institute's Danuri spacecraft made multiple passes over the impact zone and released the photos Thursday. The terrain appears darker where the Falcon 9 upper stage carved a crater and scattered debris. NASA's Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter is expected to inspect the site next week. SpaceX launched Danuri in 2022; the upper stage, from last year's private lander mission, crashed at 5,400 mph after solar activity altered its path.
