South Korean probe confirms SpaceX rocket crater near Einstein

South Korea’s Danuri lunar orbiter confirmed a SpaceX Falcon 9 upper stage left a new crater on the Moon, near Einstein crater. KASA released before-and-after images, saying videos online purporting to show the impact are fake. NASA estimated the crater at about 18 meters wide and 4 meters deep; further orbiter images are expected soon. The International Astronomical Union will not officially name the crater, as spacecraft impacts are excluded. Such marks are common; the Moon has about 100 million natural craters of similar size.
