South Korea to Move Central Agencies to Sejong City by 2026

The South Korean government announced it will relocate central administrative agencies remaining in the Seoul metropolitan area to Sejong City starting in the first half of next year, prioritizing agencies currently exempt from relocation by law. The Ministry of Justice and the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family are primary targets, with agencies requiring separate buildings like the prosecution and police offices moving after new construction. Plans for relocating about 350 public institutions will be announced in the fourth quarter of this year. The government also unveiled a plan to reduce 109 public institutions through functional consolidation and mergers, including integrating five power generation companies and four regional port authorities. Officials pledged to guarantee employment and maintain compensation levels for affected workers.
