South Korea has banned imports of German pork due to a recent outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) in Germany. This is the first FMD case reported in Germany since 1988. The South Korean agriculture ministry announced the ban on Saturday. They will test German pork products shipped to South Korea since December 27 for the FMD virus. Currently, about 360 tons of German pork, shipped between October 26 and November 17, are awaiting inspection. The ministry plans to clear these products as the FMD virus has a maximum latent period of 14 days.
