South Korea has banned pork imports from Germany after the country reported its first case of foot-and-mouth disease since 1988. The ban was announced by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs. The ministry will test German pork products shipped to South Korea since December 27. About 360 tons of German pork, shipped between October 26 and November 17, are currently awaiting inspection. Additionally, South Korea reported two new cases of avian influenza, raising the total to 23 outbreaks this season. Authorities are monitoring 69 poultry farms near the infected sites to control the spread.
