South Dublin hospital gifted to State for new 125-bed HSE facility

A south Dublin hospital with 12 acres of land has been gifted to the State, with plans to build a new 125-bed facility for older people on the site. The transfer was formally completed earlier this year. Leopardstown Park Hospital in Foxrock was established in 1917 to care for first World War soldiers, and began admitting non-military patients in the 1970s. The HSE secured planning permission for the new facility in January, which will provide residential and day-care services. The charity will sell the remaining 9.6 acres for development, with proceeds supporting ex-military veterans. The existing protected Leopardstown Park House will remain unchanged, and nearly 5,000 new trees will be planted on the site.
