South Africa warns Rwanda of war after peacekeepers killed in DRC conflict
South Africa has issued a warning to Rwanda, stating that further attacks on its peacekeeping forces by Rwandan-backed rebels would be seen as a "declaration of war." This follows the deaths of 13 South African soldiers during a recent offensive by the M23 militia in the Democratic Republic of Congo. The M23 group has reportedly taken control of Goma and is advancing into South Kivu province. South African officials claim the soldiers were killed by friendly fire from Rwandan troops, and a temporary truce has been negotiated to recover the bodies. The conflict has led to over 100 deaths and displaced 1.5 million people. Diplomatic efforts are underway to address the escalating violence, with regional leaders calling for an immediate ceasefire and negotiations between the DRC and the rebels.
