Sony Music Publishing buys Hipgnosis' song catalog

Sony Music Publishing has acquired the Hipgnosis Songs Group catalog, becoming the full-service publisher for its songwriters globally. The financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. The acquisition includes songs from artists like Sabrina Carpenter and St. Vincent, with Sony taking over Hipgnosis's publishing and administration businesses. This follows Hipgnosis's rebranding and previous deals, including the sale of its fund to Blackstone. Hipgnosis had previously driven up catalog prices, but faced investor scrutiny. Sony Music Publishing, already the world's largest, will now manage a significantly expanded catalog.
