Sony launches Dark Outlaw game studio for PlayStation
Sony has launched a new game studio called Dark Outlaw. This studio is part of PlayStation Studios and is led by Jason Blundell, known for his work on the Call of Duty Zombies games. Blundell announced the studio's creation on a podcast hosted by journalist Jeff Gerstmann. Blundell revealed that Dark Outlaw has been developing games quietly for some time. He stated, “When we’ve got something to talk about, we’ll step out into the light.” This news is significant because Sony has closed more studios than it has opened since 2021. Some of the closed studios include Firewalk Studios and Japan Studio. Blundell expressed his excitement about working with Sony on Dark Outlaw. He mentioned it is a privilege to start a new studio under the PlayStation brand, although he did not disclose what games they are currently working on. This marks Blundell's second major project with PlayStation Studios. In 2021, he co-founded Deviation Games, but that studio shut down last year without releasing a game. The announcement comes at a challenging time for Sony. The company recently faced issues with a live service game called Concord, which was shut down just a month after its launch. Additionally, there have been other game cancellations and a global outage earlier this year.
