Some US non-citizens can get food stamps in 2025
Non-citizens in the United States may be eligible for food assistance through the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) in 2025, despite not having U.S. citizenship. This allows them to purchase food at authorized retailers. Eligibility depends on specific circumstances, including meeting financial and non-financial requirements. Certain non-citizens, such as those with refugee status or asylum, are immediately eligible. Others may qualify after residing in the U.S. for five years. Additional exceptions include those who are blind or disabled and receive benefits, those who were 65 or older on August 22, 1996, and those with ties to the U.S. Armed Forces, Afghans, or Ukrainians on parole.
