thehindu.com

The Forest Department has started building a solar fence at Aralam Farm to keep wild elephants away from human areas. The temporary fence will stretch four kilometers and is currently three kilometers complete, with power already connected. This project is a part of efforts to reduce human-wildlife conflict. A permanent elephant wall and a hanging fence along the river are planned for the future. Meanwhile, a five-kilometer fence from Valayanchal to Kotappa River is operational, and night patrols are monitoring the area. Additionally, the government is working on water availability for wildlife in the Kottiyoor range to prevent animals from entering human settlements in search of water during the summer.
