SKM to meet Sunday as farmer protest at Chandigarh-Mohali border enters fifth day

The Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM) will hold a crucial meeting Sunday at 9:30 am to decide its next course of action, as its five-day protest at the Chandigarh-Mohali border continues amid a deadlock with the Punjab government over talks. Farmer leaders said the administration failed to respond to their demands by the Saturday deadline, prompting the meeting. The protest, which began Tuesday, involves 28 associations pressing for a legal MSP guarantee, loan waivers, and higher crop prices, with an estimated 4,500-5,000 attendees. The protest has caused traffic gridlock, with police restricting entry roads and commuters detouring from IISER Chowk. Police confirmed the protest remained peaceful, and farmers have threatened to extend the agitation if the government stays non-responsive.
