Skin gas expert: Ammonia causes 'summer fatigue odor' in Japanese women over 40
A skin gas expert says persistent body odor in women aged 40-50 is likely "summer fatigue odor" from ammonia, not sweat or aging odor, and cannot be washed off. Professor Yoshika Sekine of Tokai University identified five triggers: protein-heavy unbalanced diets, heat stress from extreme temperatures and UV rays, psychological stress, reduced liver function, and physical fatigue. Ammonia emissions also increase in stuffy indoor environments with high discomfort index. Menopausal hormonal changes cause hot flashes, fatigue, and sleep issues, prompting women to dismiss the odor as inevitable. Digestive ability declines with age after 40, increasing risk, while exercise-related odor decreases after activity stops.
