SK Hynix plans first Japan memory fab in Miyagi Prefecture

SK Hynix is pursuing plans to build a memory semiconductor fab in Miyagi Prefecture, Japan, according to a Hankyoreh report, marking its first large-scale production investment in the country. The project is reportedly under discussion at tens of trillions of won. The proposed facility would add overseas production capacity amid a global memory-chip shortage, with SK Group Chairman Chey Tae-won recently visiting the area. If completed, it would make SK Hynix the third foreign chipmaker to build a plant in Japan, following Micron and TSMC.
