SK Hynix and Sandisk introduce open standard for AI flash memory

SK hynix and Sandisk introduced a High Bandwidth Flash specification through the Open Compute Project, targeting AI inference systems and aiming to improve memory performance under growing AI workloads. The standard was developed with partners including Google and Tenstorrent. It addresses rising pressure on bandwidth, efficiency, and data throughput in AI inference, and could help align future products with large AI buyers' needs. SK hynix, a major memory supplier for data centers and AI hardware, trades about 47% below analyst targets after a 28.8% monthly share-price drop.
