SIU investigates shooting during police stop on Highway 401 near Kitchener

The Special Investigations Unit is looking into a shooting that occurred during a police stop on Highway 401 near Kitchener. The incident happened after officers responded to a report of a person jumping from a moving vehicle. During the stop, an officer discharged their firearm, injuring one person in the vehicle. The injured individual was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, along with another occupant. Eastbound lanes of Highway 401 were closed for several hours during the investigation but reopened early Saturday morning.
