Singapore Speaker Seah Kian Peng apologises for falling asleep in parliament
Singapore's Speaker of Parliament Seah Kian Peng apologised on Friday for falling asleep while chairing proceedings earlier this month, citing illness and medication as contributing factors but accepting full responsibility. Videos of a clerk attempting to wake Seah during the Sep 9 sitting circulated online, prompting his Facebook apology. He stated the incident fell short of expected standards, noting he fell asleep after four hours and should have called for a break earlier, as he normally does after four to six hours Seah, who took office in August 2023, said he had aimed to discharge duties conscientiously and uphold standards, adding "I apologise for the lapse. I will learn from it and take steps to ensure it does not happen again"
