Singapore Speaker apologises for nodding off during Parliament session

thestar.com.my —

Singapore's Speaker of Parliament Seah Kian Peng has apologised for nodding off while chairing proceedings on Sept 9, saying he takes full responsibility for the incident. In a Facebook post on Friday, Seah said he had been feeling unwell and taken medication that day, but acknowledged this does not excuse his lapse. He admitted he should have called for a break earlier, noting he normally does so after four to six hours of proceedings. Seah fell asleep after the four-hour mark during a debate on new laws governing the Health Sciences Authority, following a speech by Hougang MP Dennis Tan. He said the incident fell short of the standards expected of his office and pledged to learn from it.
