Shootout Between Ukrainian Intelligence Agencies in Kyiv Wounds Three

A shootout erupted between Ukrainian intelligence agencies in Kyiv on Wednesday morning, leaving three military intelligence officers wounded, two seriously, and prompting President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to condemn the internal clash. The conflict began when SBU security service agents and HUR military intelligence operatives exchanged fire in eastern Kyiv. The SBU claims it was attacked while thwarting an assassination plot against Russian opposition figure Stepan Kaplunov, while HUR alleges the SBU kidnapped Kaplunov and opened fire during negotiations. Zelenskyy has fired the SBU's state secrets protection chief and demanded both agencies publicly explain the incident. His chief of staff, Kyrylo Budanov, stated no one has the right to fire on Ukrainian streets, emphasizing that only Russian occupiers should be targeted.
