Shingles vaccine linked to lower dementia death rates in Wales

Shingles vaccination was linked to a significant decrease in dementia-related deaths in a Welsh data analysis. The study found a 29.5 percentage point reduction in dementia deaths over nine years for vaccinated dementia patients, and also suggested a potential slowing of dementia progression. This research builds on prior findings and utilized unique vaccine eligibility criteria in Wales to minimize bias, though it focused on an older vaccine no longer widely available.
