Shelly Wall Display Becomes Matter Controller and Smart Home Hub

Shelly announced at IFA 2026 a free firmware update turning its Wall Display into both a Matter Controller and Matter device, enabling full local smart home integration. The update lets the Wall Display add and control third-party Matter devices like lights and thermostats directly on its touchscreen, while also exposing its own relays, dimmers, and heating controls to platforms such as Apple Home, Alexa, and Home Assistant. Automation runs locally on the panel. The free update applies to Wall Display models X1i, X2i, XL, U1, S1, S2, and XT, with older models gaining partial control via newer displays. Thread devices still need a Border Router. Shelly also unveiled new sensors, a camera, and a refreshed thermostat.
