Sharon returns to work after bone marrow transplant: "A nightmare illness, now grateful to my colleagues"

Sharon Pethra Bonadeo, a 39-year-old accountant from Bianzone, Italy, returned to work on September 1, 2026, after a year-long battle with acute myeloid leukemia that required a bone marrow transplant. She described the return as emotional, marked by embraces and tears from colleagues. Bonadeo was diagnosed with the aggressive blood cancer and, lacking siblings, launched a public appeal for a compatible donor. Her employer, Clautek, organized a typing event with the Admo association, where about seventy colleagues and clients were tested, ultimately leading to a match with an anonymous donor. She underwent the transplant in autumn and has since recovered. Currently working four-hour days with flexible company support for follow-ups, Bonadeo is grateful to her colleagues and is writing a diary-book about her difficult year, dedicating a chapter to her first day back.
