Severina Stanzani turns 105, from first female voters to countryside life in Granarolo

Severina Stanzani, a resident of Granarolo, celebrated her 105th birthday on Wednesday, making her the town's oldest citizen and one of the oldest in the Bologna area and Emilia-Romagna region. Mayor Alessandro Ricci visited her to present a plant and a parchment, symbolizing continuity and a life fully lived. Born in San Lazzaro on September 1, 1921, she has lived in Granarolo since 1948 and worked in the countryside with her late husband. In 1946, at age 24, she was among the first Italian women to vote in the institutional referendum and Constituent Assembly elections. She still lives almost independently with her daughters, reading, walking, and maintaining sharp memory.
