'Scrubs' Revival Fixes Original's Cast Transition Problem With New Regular

The Scrubs revival has resolved a major issue from the original series' final season by successfully introducing a new generation of doctors mentored by the original cast, with newcomer Ava Bunn's character Dr. Sam Tosh being promoted to series regular for Season 2. The revival premiered in April 2026, 16 years after the original show's poorly received Season 9 attempt at a cast transition. Bunn's character, Dr. Tosh, will develop her mentor-mentee relationship with Elliot and her romance with Dr. Asher Green in the new season. Bunn drew inspiration from the original cast's dynamics and used TikTok to research how modern doctors use social media, bringing improvisation skills from her Groundlings and Upright Citizens Brigade background to the role. The two-episode Season 2 premiere airs Wednesday, Sept. 30, 2026, at 8:00 p.m. EDT/PDT on ABC, streaming the next day on Hulu. The revival follows J.D. and Turk as they reunite at Sacred Heart Hospital, navigating the changing medical landscape with new interns.
