Scientists warn $100 billion renewable energy project in Western Australia threatens unique cave system
A $100 billion renewable energy project in Western Australia has sparked concern among scientists. They argue it threatens a unique cave system, which they believe should be protected as a global treasure. The project includes 3,000 wind turbines and six million solar panels. The Western Green Energy Hub aims to produce hydrogen and ammonia for export, covering hundreds of kilometers along the Nullarbor Plain. Scientists claim the project's environmental impact assessments overlook critical cave ecosystems, while proponents assert they have designed the project to minimize harm. The project plans to clear up to 27,000 hectares of land and partially clear another 77,000 hectares. The developers emphasize that 95% of the project area will remain untouched and that they will continue to study and avoid sensitive environments.
