Scientists create early map of human body's trillions of cells

Researchers have created an early map of some of the human body's estimated 37.2 trillion cells. This initial atlas focuses on cells in the mouth, stomach, intestines, and those involved in bone and joint development. The map details the roles of different cell types, their locations, and how they change over time. It aims to aid in understanding diseases, particularly cancer, by revealing how cells interact. A more comprehensive atlas is planned for release in 2026, covering 18 organs and body systems. Additional atlases are also being developed to explore specific areas like the brain and gut microbiome.
