Scientists create early map of human body's trillions of cells

Researchers have created an early map of the human body's estimated 37.2 trillion cells, focusing on organs like the mouth, stomach, and intestines. This map details cell functions and relationships, aiding understanding of health and diseases, including cancer. The current atlas is a first draft, with plans for a more comprehensive version in 2026. This future map will cover 18 organs and body systems, including skin and heart, enhancing insights into cell behavior over time. Additional atlases are being developed to explore specific areas, such as the brain and gut microbiome, to further investigate health and disease mechanisms.
