Scholz promotes defense ties and cooperation with India during visit
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz concluded a three-day visit to India, emphasizing increased arms cooperation. He signed 27 agreements covering renewable energy, research, and critical technologies, aiming to strengthen the strategic partnership established over 20 years ago. Scholz highlighted plans for enhanced collaboration in defense, including technology sharing and co-production of military equipment. India was the third-largest recipient of German arms in the first half of 2024, with licenses approved for €153.75 million. During his visit, Scholz also recognized German naval forces after joint exercises with the Indian Navy. He advocated for skilled workers in Germany and called for faster negotiations on a free trade agreement with India.
