SBU releases Kaplunov confession video; lawyer alleges coercion

Ukraine's Security Service released a video showing Kaplunov admitting contacts with Russia's FSB, while his lawyer claims the confession was made under duress and threats. The SBU stated Kaplunov, deputy commander of the Russian Volunteer Corps, was tasked with assassinating an opposition leader and Ukrainian soldiers in exchange for money, with a plot planned for Ukraine's Independence Day. The agency said his cooperation helped identify those involved. Lawyer Taras Borovsky told Ukrainska Pravda the video was filmed under torture and death threats, calling it an attempt to justify an illegal abduction. The SBU released Kaplunov after his confession, while a separate investigation into a recent SBU-GUR shootout is ongoing.
