SBS Transit reviews Farrer Park MRT urinal layout after online criticism

SBS Transit is reviewing the urinal layout at Farrer Park MRT station in Singapore after online photos drew criticism for placing six urinals too close together, with some facing each other. The transport operator confirmed the review on Thursday, September 3, 2026, and said any changes would be planned to minimize commuter inconvenience. World Toilet Organization founder Jack Sim visited the toilet to verify the photos, stating that "even common sense" shows the design does not work. He noted difficulty for two people to stand at opposite urinals without their backs touching and questioned how the layout passed multiple approval layers. The Restroom Association of Singapore recommends a 90cm clearance in front of a urinal to any wall, fixture, or door. Sim, who advises policymakers globally on toilet design, said the design needs reconfiguration, as users at the deeper end may have to wait for others to finish before exiting.
