Satisfactory's first expansion goes underground with new logistics tools
Satisfactory's first expansion, Core Values, is set entirely in a new underground biome, introducing unique logistics tools and challenges instead of simply reusing the base game's conveyor belts. The expansion aims to avoid repetition by offering new resource-moving mechanics that expand gameplay beyond the surface factory experience. Game director Emmet Burke confirmed that while some base game logistics remain, players will not rely on belts, as new, more rugged machinery like big gears and hammers will transport resources differently. Art director Torsten Gunst emphasized that new underground resources will unlock fresh logistics systems, not just reskinned versions of existing ones, ensuring the expansion feels rewarding and substantial. The underground setting also impacts gameplay through limited space and lighting, making navigation and orientation more challenging. Players must adapt to cave environments with points of interest like waterfalls, while Coffee Stain encourages creative solutions such as signposts or following pipe systems to avoid getting lost, balancing exploration with factory-building duties.
