A small satellite, MP42, recently revealed damage from an unidentified impact, likely caused by a micrometeorite or space debris. The satellite, operated by NanoAvionics, showed a 0.2-inch hole in its solar panel in a selfie taken this month.

The impact occurred sometime in the past year and a half, as the last selfie was taken in April 2023. Despite the damage, the satellite continues to function normally and generate power.

The incident highlights concerns about increasing space debris, with over 27,000 tracked pieces currently in orbit. This situation raises awareness about the need for responsible space operations to prevent future collisions.
