Sarma launches first phase of NFSA ration card distribution in Assam

Guwahati's Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma launched the first phase of the NFSA ration card distribution on Sunday. This phase targets 20 lakh new beneficiaries across 49 assembly constituencies, adding to the existing 2.30 crore beneficiaries in Assam. During the event, ration cards were distributed to over 30,000 families in Guwahati Central and Jalukbari. The government aims to ensure that 85% of rural and 60% of urban residents receive ration cards, enhancing food security. The initiative includes a selection process for the Orunodoi scheme, which will increase beneficiaries significantly. The government plans to introduce subsidized essential items, with details expected in the upcoming state budget.
