São Paulo governor removes public security secretary to lead anti-terrorism bill

São Paulo Governor Tarcísio de Freitas removed Guilherme Derrite from the State Public Security Secretariat. Derrite, also a federal deputy, will now chair a bill classifying criminal factions as terrorist cells. This follows his October 29 announcement to take leave from his state role to focus on the legislation. The bill, which the federal government opposes, aims to amend the Anti-Terrorism Law to include militias and criminal factions as terrorist organizations.
