San Mateo County Sheriff faces scrutiny over misconduct allegations and loss of confidence from supervisors

An independent report released on November 12, 2024, accuses San Mateo County Sheriff Christina Corpus of fostering a culture of intimidation and retaliation, as well as having an inappropriate relationship with her chief of staff, Victor Aellne. The report details various incidents and claims of misconduct. Following the report, the San Mateo County Board of Supervisors unanimously voted to express no confidence in Corpus. In response, she appointed Aellne as assistant sheriff and denied all allegations, calling the investigation politically motivated. On November 14, the district attorney's office received the investigation report for review. The board is considering a charter amendment to gain the power to remove the sheriff, as calls for her resignation continue.
