San Francisco start-up offers $700 sleep pods to tackle housing crisis
A San Francisco start-up, Brownstone Shared Housing, has launched $700-a-month sleep pods as a response to the city's housing crisis. This is significantly lower than the average rent of nearly $4,000 per month. The pods are small, enclosed spaces with basic amenities, designed to accommodate 30 residents in a shared area. After overcoming city approval challenges, Brownstone is now advertising the pods again, having filled 28 of the 30 available spots. California Governor Gavin Newsom recently announced $827 million to address homelessness, with $44 million allocated directly to San Francisco. It remains unclear if Brownstone's pods will receive any of this funding.
