Russian Volunteer Corps commander describes Kyiv shooting and alleged kidnapping

Stepan Kaplunov, deputy commander of the Russian Volunteer Corps, said he was inside his Kyiv apartment during the September 2 shooting between SBU and HUR officers and heard the gunfire through the window. Kaplunov described his August 23 detention as a kidnapping by men posing as police, followed by nine days of detention and questioning about alleged FSB contacts. He said the search of his apartment found no prohibited items. The shooting occurred during the search, which Kaplunov's unit guarded. He was later freed by his colleagues. The SBU claims it was preventing an assassination plot, while Ukraine's president called the incident shameful.
