Russian Strike Damages Kyiv's Saint Sophia Reserve Building

A Russian attack on Kyiv on September 4 damaged a building of the National Reserve "Sophia of Kyiv," breaking windows and destroying a glass entrance group, though no people were injured. The Consistory building, facing Volodymyrska Street, was hit, while the Saint Sophia Cathedral itself was unharmed. The reserve's director, Nelia Kukovalska, confirmed no casualties as people took shelter. The blast wave also damaged the nearby "Zavertailo" bakery, whose staff and visitors were in a basement. The "Buty Sofie" cafe on the reserve's territory closed for the day. The reserve is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is under enhanced protection under the 1954 Hague Convention. Ukraine's Culture Ministry called the attack a gross violation of international humanitarian law, threatening global cultural heritage. The September 4 strike also caused fires, injured nine people, and damaged the SBU building.
