Russian Lawmaker Expects Doubling of Russia-China Tourist Flow

Russian State Duma deputy Sergei Krivonosov expects tourist flow between Russia and China to double after the introduction of a permanent visa-free regime. In the first quarter of 2026, Russians made about 690,000 trips to China, a 53.7% increase year-on-year. Krivonosov noted that demand growth could raise prices for flights and accommodation during peak dates, though visa-free travel itself does not automatically increase costs. In 2025, Russians made about 2.47 million tourist trips to China, while Chinese tourists made over 800,000 trips to Russia. Popular destinations include Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, and Hainan for Russians, and Moscow and St. Petersburg for Chinese visitors, with potential in regions like Sochi.
