Russia escalates drone attacks on Ukraine as winter approaches
In October, Russia launched over 2,000 long-range drones at Ukraine, a significant increase from 1,300 in September. This escalation aims to disrupt Ukraine's power supply as winter approaches, targeting electricity generation facilities more than before. Ukraine is enhancing its defenses against these drone attacks. While it lacks advanced missile systems, it is successfully using helicopters and electronic warfare to intercept many drones. Reports indicate that around 95% of incoming drones have been neutralized through various means. Ukraine is also developing its own interceptor drones, such as the "Shahed Killer" and the Bagnet, to counter the drone threat. These new drones are designed to be fast, cost-effective, and capable of operating in large numbers, potentially shifting the balance in the ongoing conflict.
