Russia deploys intermediate-range missiles

Russia has ended its self-imposed moratorium on deploying nuclear-capable intermediate-range missiles. This move signals a potential new arms race amid rising tensions with the U.S. over Ukraine. The Russian Foreign Ministry cited U.S. and allied plans to develop and deploy such weapons in Europe as the reason for its decision. Russia previously stated it would only deploy these missiles if the U.S. did. This development follows recent U.S. nuclear submarine repositioning and comes after the collapse of the 1987 INF Treaty, which banned these types of missiles.
