Russia Declares Baltic Groups Nazi Accomplices in New Court Ruling

obozrevatel.com (Ukrainian) —

Russia's Prosecutor General's Office announced on October 5 that a Moscow court declared several Baltic organizations and individuals as accomplices of Nazi Germany during World War II, citing the need to protect Russia's "national interests" in Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia. The Tverskoy District Court of Moscow ruled that groups including Omakaitse, Aizsargi, the Lithuanian Activist Front, Pērkonkrusts, and the Union of Lithuanian Nationalists, along with 13 individuals, were Nazi accomplices based on archival documents. The Kremlin stated the ruling has "legal significance" for preserving historical memory and countering history falsification. This follows an August ruling by the same court that declared Ukrainian nationalist leaders Stepan Bandera and Roman Shukhevych, along with the Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists and the Ukrainian Insurgent Army, as Nazi accomplices. Russia also plans to file a lawsuit with the International Court of Justice over alleged rights violations of Russian speakers in the Baltics.
