Russia Clarifies Safety Measures for Foreign Airlines After Zelenskiy Warning

Russia's Transport Ministry has provided foreign airlines with clarifications on safety measures at Russian airports and in its airspace, following Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy's warning that flights in Russia had become unsafe. Transport Minister Andrei Nikitin said the clarifications were issued in response to requests from foreign carriers, and that they work closely with Russia and understand its rules and standards. The ministry's statement follows a Wednesday denial from Russian aviation watchdog Rosaviatsiya, which said Russian air transport continues to operate normally. Zelenskiy warned airlines and insurers on Tuesday that Ukrainian drones had made Russian airspace dangerous and effectively closed. While European and U.S. carriers have avoided Russian airspace since the 2022 Ukraine war, airlines from China, Turkey, and Gulf states still use it.
