Roosevelt Hotel to close as migrant shelter in New York City, Mayor says

The Roosevelt Hotel in Manhattan, which has served as a migrant shelter since May 2023, is set to close in the coming months, according to Mayor Eric Adams. This follows a significant decrease in the number of asylum seekers in the city. Currently, the city is averaging about 350 new migrant arrivals each week, down from 4,000 at the peak of the crisis. The hotel has housed over 173,000 migrants since its conversion but has faced various issues, including safety concerns. As the Roosevelt Hotel prepares to shut down, the city plans to close 53 migrant shelter sites by June. Migrants will still have other locations available for registration after the hotel ceases operations.
