Rome fast-tracks €1.4bn stadium for AS Roma and Euro 2032 bid

Rome has approved the construction of a new football arena for AS Roma, with a projected cost of nearly 16 billion Swedish kronor. The building permit was fast-tracked to meet a deadline for the 2032 European Championship. The permit was approved on Monday in just 90 days, compared to the typical 270-day process in Italy, according to Gazzetta dello Sport. The accelerated timeline aims to include the stadium in plans for Euro 2032, which Italy and Turkey will host, with a submission deadline in two days. Construction will begin early next year and finish by 2029, with a capacity of over 60,000 spectators. Mayor Roberto Gualtieri called it a significant transformation for the city, while AS Roma currently shares the Stadio Olimpico with rivals Lazio, who plan to build their own separate arena.
