Romania's High Court allows Georgescu trial to proceed

Romania's High Court rejected all challenges on Thursday, allowing the trial of Călin Georgescu, Horațiu Potra, and other defendants accused of actions against the constitutional order to proceed. The Supreme Court upheld the Bucharest Court of Appeal's April ruling that the indictment was legally drafted, dismissing both prosecutors' and defendants' challenges. The High Court noted this preliminary stage only verified procedural legality, not accusation merits or guilt. Georgescu is charged with complicity in attempted actions against the constitutional order and spreading false information; Potra with attempted actions and weapons offenses. The charges stem from an alleged plan following the presidential election annulment.
