Auto service stations in Romania must install hydrocarbon separators to filter oil and fuel from wastewater, a mandatory requirement for RAR authorization and environmental compliance. Class I separators, certified under SR EN 858, reduce hydrocarbon concentration to below 5 mg/l using a coalescent filter. Without compliant equipment, businesses face fines between 10,000 and 100,000 lei, possible suspension of operations, and required maintenance through regular emptying of collected hazardous waste. One liter of motor oil can contaminate up to a million liters of groundwater. Proper sizing, maintenance every six months, and documentation are essential for continuous compliance with environmental authorities.
