Romania lets grid operator limit power use by large industrial users in shortages

The Romanian government approved rules letting grid operator Transelectrica limit electricity use by large industrial consumers during supply deficits, as a last-resort measure. Households are exempt from these restrictions. The measures, applied only if the energy system requires it, follow a priority order: boosting reserves, starting standby groups, cutting exports, then limiting consumption between 19:00 and 23:00 for major industrial users only. Affected businesses must receive written notice at least 24 hours in advance. Exemptions cover households, hospitals, emergency services, water supplies, and other critical infrastructure where disruption could endanger lives or essential processes.
