Romania approves restoration of Coțofenești helmet recovered from Dutch museum

Romania’s National Commission of Museums and Collections has approved the start of restoring the gold Coțofenești helmet, recovered after being stolen from a Dutch museum. The National History Museum of Romania said restoration will follow a dedicated strategy and methodology, based on non-invasive analyses; the first direct intervention on the helmet is to begin shortly. The helmet and three Dacian bracelets were stolen from Drents Museum in January 2025. The helmet and two bracelets were recovered; one bracelet remains missing. Three men were sentenced in June.
