Romania achieves 94% beverage container recycling

Romania leads the EU in beverage container recycling with a 94% collection rate. This success is attributed to a new public-private partnership with RetuRO, implementing a deposit-return system where consumers pay a small fee on containers, refunded upon return. The system, launched two years ago, has dramatically improved recycling rates from a previous 11-12% and has seen billions of containers returned.
